Dems were the margin of victory for CAFTA

Wed Jul 06, 2005 at 03:05:57 PM PDT

If these 10 Senate Dems hadn't voted for it, it would have been defeated.  I am really getting sick of this.  It still maybe defeated in the House but why allow it to go that far?   This report is from Jim Nichols.

Israeli courts admit fence route was not for security alone!

Tue Jul 05, 2005 at 06:30:40 PM PDT

This is a very interesting developement because as anyone who has debated an Israeli apologist on this site, or on others knows, they always claim it was just done to stop terrorists, and that does not represent annexation.  The Israeli government is also backing off the claim that the fence is temporary, or that it can be moved.   More from Haaretz.

28 Dems block crackdown on corporate tax evaders

Sun Jul 03, 2005 at 04:19:44 PM PDT

Yes, this makes me mad.  How are we going to convince the public we stand for the little guy when we provide the margin of victory for the republicans all the time?  From David Sirota!

Thieves steal computers at Ohio Dem headquarters!

Sat Jul 02, 2005 at 05:38:40 PM PDT

Oh boy, first the revelation that Rove was the Valerie Plame leaker now a classic Watergate move! Things are really heating up. Maybe I would watch LIVE8 if this didn't seem monumentally more important.

Paris Hilton Democrats

Sat Jul 02, 2005 at 11:03:03 AM PDT

Why aren't we Democrats fighting the estate tax repeal harder?  It is completely unjust to destroy the estate tax.  Paris Hilton didn't earn that money.  Why the fuck do Democrats think they have an obligation to make like nicer for her?  In the meantime, people who have to pay medical bills can't declare bankruptcy as easily, largely because of mbna dems like Joe Biden.

al-Samarie: We have an opportunity to leave Iraq with honor!

Fri Jul 01, 2005 at 03:42:02 PM PDT

Bush and the Democrats are ignoring it.  His name is Ayham al-Samarie.  He is a secular Sunni and former minister of electricity, in Iraq. He claims to represent the insurgents that have not engaged in war crimes.  He has credibility in the Sunni community and is willing to negotiate a settlement that could lead to the end of the war.

This diary is awesome

It should be a front page diary or on the recommended list.

I wish this person had been advising Durban.

Democratic Underground Censorship of Neocon criticism

Sat Jun 18, 2005 at 10:58:28 PM PDT

I just got kicked off of Democratic Underground.  Why, I have no idea. They don't give explanations. These are two threads they don't like.  I am posting as dameocrat.

Antiwar.com needs your help

Fri May 06, 2005 at 05:00:02 PM PDT

I know they are right wing libertarians, but they feature a broad variety of antiwar opinion, left, right and center.  They regularly featured Juan Cole before any other website.  They have only raised half of what they need to operate and they are only two days away from the end of their pledge period.

They cover the plame affair and the neocons like no other site on the internet and the antiwar movement would be harmed without them. It is simply easier for me to find alternative antiwar opinions there than to go hunting all over the net. Please donate here! http://www.antiwar.com

Neocons: "Eliminate all Dictators by 2025"

Tue Mar 15, 2005 at 10:01:17 AM PDT

When will you liberal hawks finally get it through your thick skulls that Bush and the neocons are using "Democracy" for imperialist purposes?  They are using Democracy to put us in a permanent state of warfare that this country can't afford. How deep in debt will we be when this Democratic Jihad is over? How many programs will have to be cut.

They also uses the word Democracy in an Orwellian fashion and they overthrow real democracies only to replace them with Pinochet like oligharchies. They are like Napolean.  Napolean crowned himself Emperor in the name of spreading the values of the French Revolution.

Daschle Moving to K Street

Mon Mar 14, 2005 at 10:16:42 AM PDT

I admit, I think we are better off that he lost to Thune. I don't think he was a good minority leader.  I like Reid much better!  I am not surprised Daschle is working for a republican lobbiest.  His wife was a lobbiest for MBNA America.

Venezuela's Chavez is like FDR not Castro!

Fri Mar 11, 2005 at 04:14:00 PM PDT

Why do Democrats often help the Neoconservative demonize Hugo Chavez, and other members of the Latin American "New Left"?  They are social Democrats, not Communists.  They were all elected fairly, unlike Castro. They all support multiparty Democracy, unlike Cuba.  None of them are attempting to Nationalize industry.  Chavez's signature social program has been offering microcredits to the poor so they can start small businesses.  That is clearly the program of a Social Democrat, not a Communists!

Markos what are you thinking?

Wed Mar 09, 2005 at 07:18:35 PM PDT

Even Noam Schrieber at (Democratic Weekly Standard)TNR sees how silly this Bankruptcy bill is!

But, even worse than that, support for the bill by Democratic moderates betrays a striking obliviousness to the most important debate underway within the Democratic Party. Moderate Democrats have been under assault from grassroots liberals lately for selling out Democratic values in their rush to appease conservative interests. I normally think this criticism is highly misplaced, and that moderates have exactly the right instincts when it comes to social issues and foreign policy, even most economic issues. But in this case the moderates proved the liberals' point for them, which could set back the cause of moderates within the party for months, if not years. It really is a colossal, inexcusable mistake.

Help with Dkos please?

Wed Mar 09, 2005 at 01:50:01 PM PDT

I have lost the ability to rate comments.  How do I get it back?

Has there been a change in the rules or have I messed up a setting?  Is Kos tinkering with the program?

Yes I will erase this inane diary when I get an answer, but I can't find it anywhere in the dkos faq, and dkos doesn't answer my emails.

Peter Beinart: Why the DLC is just hopeless!

Mon Mar 07, 2005 at 06:36:18 AM PDT

He is just simply dishonest.  Read this latest column on attracting military voters.

But it failed. Partly that's because Kerry lacked a clear, compelling message on Iraq and the struggle against extremist Islam. Partly it's because the right smeared him as a duplicitous radical who had fabricated parts of his military record and betrayed his fellow soldiers when he came home. But it's also because in the four years before Kerry was nominated, while Rove was relentlessly reaching out to Hispanics and African Americans, the Democrats hadn't done the same for veterans. Between 1996 and 2004, the percentage of black and Hispanic delegates to the Republican National Convention more than doubled. In the same period, the percentage of veterans serving as Democratic delegates actually fell.

Take a job as a prostitute or lose unemployment benefits

Sat Mar 05, 2005 at 10:20:24 PM PDT

Sometimes I don't understand why there is always so much support for legalized prostitution on the Democratic messageboards. I always attribute it to the male domination of these boards, because it is pretty obvious to me this is legalized sexual harrassment of female employees.  Anyway, in Germany women are being  forced to take jobs as Prostitutes or lose welfare and unemployment.

Canadian Parliament getting mouthy to Walmart!

Sat Feb 26, 2005 at 03:58:52 PM PDT

It looks like Walmart is not going to be able to shut down that store in Quebec.  The United Food and Commercial Workers website is expecting punitive legislation against Walmart, should they do so.  Four parties in the Canadian Parliament have spoken out against Walmart now. If they manage to get Walmart in line, I suspect the unions will copy this approach in the US. Then maybe American workers will stop being such wimps.

Bush started war to create global stagflation

Sat Feb 26, 2005 at 11:10:08 AM PDT

Consider that the oil companies only make profits when oil prices are rising.  Consider that inflation has been so low, even during a booming economy, that many corporate executives were scared of deflation.  Aparently oil wars have always preceded stagflation.  Consider that inflation and deflation has not necessarily been linked to the strength of the economy in the past 30yrs which means the economic assumptions of both Marxists and Classical economists have more or less been stumped.   Both groups assumed inflation was related to a fast growing economy, and deflation was related to a bad economy.
